Day out with Thomas 2012

The last 2 years, Day out with Thomas has been a father-daughter day with Chad and Abby. But seeing how much Tristan loves Thomas now, Chad couldn't not take him this year. He said that Tristan was a bit shy at first, but totally loved it!
Tristan had to wear his Thomas shirt and his Thomas backpack

They got some tattoos.

and rode the train that Thomas was pulling!

Photo ops with Thomas

So brave to stand with Sir Thopam Hat (my kids are so scared of characters!)

Having fun!

Kalaloch family reunion

It was so nice to go back to Kalaloch this year. We hadn't been there since four years ago, and that time we were severely rained-out. We had no rain this time and both full days that we were there were warm and beautiful down on the beach. The kids had so much fun and I think the adults had a lot of fun too! I started running with my sister and I've been doing it ever since :)
Tristan and his trike.

Eatin breakfast!

Tristan did this.

Sassy 7-year old.

We drew Tristan roads with chalk.  He funny about not wanting to step on them.

The kids paint rocks and sticks.

So cute!

Uncle Jon buries Abby.

So sandy!

So much fun!

So pretty!

Another beautiful girl in the family :)

Look at these wise guys!

Anniversary trip to San Juans

This year for our anniversary, Chad and I took a trip to the San Juans in our sailboat. We had to go a few weeks early since Chad was going to be working back in Everett on our anniversary. Both our parents were SO nice to watch our kids for us for the whole week. We got up bright and early Saturday morning, August 4th and headed north. Chad did most of the driving (and the sailing too).

checking wind direction? or proper flying of the sails?

The first night we anchored out at Spencer's Spit.

There was a lot of traffic, including ferry boats that made it very wavy.

The next night we went to fisherman's bay where we nearly ran aground (the depth meter read 0 for about 30 seconds). Then the current threw us off docking and we nearly ran into the dock and another boat while making complete fools out of ourselves while the idiots next to us just sat there and watched. BUT, we did have a good dinner in town and a nice run and some shopping the next day :)

In town at Fisherman's Bay.

After anchoring out in Fisherman's Bay one more night, we headed into Canadian waters to Poet's Cove Resort. One the best things they have here? Some amazing coffee!

They also had a nice restaurant!

We went on a hike and found ourselves a great view.

Chad tried to get me to hike thru the woods down to the road (do you see how far up we are???), and there was no trail (here) so after a failed attempt we headed back the way we came to the ACTUAL trail.

The hike started around the lake.

We brought our suits to swim but there were too many lillypads :(

Chad's probably still trying to get me to jump in and I'm probably {still} saying "no-way"

The next night our friends from Brownsville marina (the people we bought our boat from) show-up (we didn't plan it either!) and we had drinks and dinner together for a fun evening!
Next stop is Montague Bay, farther north in Canada.

We anchored out and then {Chad} rowed our (did I say "our", I mean "dad's") dinghy to shore.
We then took a bus to a famous pub on the island which was pretty fun but not sure it was really worth the effort.

Finally we find ourselves in Friday Harbor. We think about doing a race the next day but decide sipping lemon-drops and soaking up some sun is a better way to spend our vacation :)

We have a long ride home as the current is not with us.

Chad gives me some sailing lessons (I'll omit the part about him making me cry, oh...too late for that).

The sun is setting and we are not even halfway home.  We finally anchor out at 2 am in Manzanita Bay (which is only about 30 minutes from Brownsville).
